Catherine Aird writes a series of village mysteries featuring DCI Sloan and Constable Crosby.

The firs title in the series The Religious body was published in 1966. The 23rd  Dead Heading is published this year.

Sloan is a family man and a good detective and the straight man to Constable Crosby’s fool outward demeanour.

Typically cosy village mysteries these are a good, consistent read.
